My train is delayed – what are my rights?
- You may cancel your journey and receive a refund for the unused part of your trip. To receive a refund, you must cancel your journey before the train’s newly scheduled departure time.*
- You may choose to rebook your journey on another Snälltåget departure. At present, you need to contact Customer Service to do this.*
- You may continue your journey and be entitled to compensation for the delay – unless the delay was caused by a third party, such as a person on the tracks, an accident, or extraordinary circumstances beyond Snälltåget’s control, such as extreme weather.
*Please note: A night train may make up time during the night. For it to be considered late upon arrival at the final destination, the departure delay must exceed 180 minutes. The delay is measured against the timetable on your most recent ticket.
If you are continuing your journey with another Snälltåget train or connecting bus
If you are travelling onwards with another Snälltåget service or one of our connecting buses, we usually wait for the incoming connection – for example, if you are arriving with a connecting bus. Listen to onboard announcements or speak to the train staff for assistance.
If you are continuing with another train or bus company – and have a Resplus ticket
If you purchased your entire journey at the same time and your ticket is marked with "Resplus", you are covered by the Resplus arrival guarantee. This means we will assist you in reaching the final destination printed on your Resplus ticket. Contact the onboard train staff, or if your train is delayed even before departure, get in touch with Snälltåget Customer Service.
If you have purchased separate tickets
If you have a domestic ticket with Snälltåget and have purchased a separate ticket with another train, bus or other transport company, no arrival guarantee applies. In this case, Snälltåget’s responsibility only extends to the destination stated on your ticket with us.
Missed connection during international travel
For international journeys, Snälltåget cooperates with other railway companies under the Agreement of Journey Continuation (AJC). This agreement includes operators such as CD, DSB, DB and ÖBB. If you purchased a journey involving two AJC member companies and miss your connection, you are entitled to travel on the next departure with the same operator – at no extra cost.
AJC applies even if the tickets were purchased separately, provided there was sufficient transfer time between trains. Snälltåget recommends a minimum transfer time of 45 minutes in, for example, Copenhagen, Hamburg or Berlin. To continue your journey, you will need a delay certificate from Snälltåget. This certificate is issued by the train staff and must be presented together with your original ticket.
To cancel your journey, go to My Journey. Enter your booking number and email address, then click Search. In the booking details, click Cancel.
If you travelled with Snälltåget and your train arrived more than 60 minutes late, you may be entitled to compensation in accordance with EU Regulation 782/2021, Article 17 (opens in new tab).
To submit a compensation claim, go to My Journey. Enter your booking reference and email address, then click Search to retrieve your booking. In the booking details, click Delayed?. This button will only appear once the final train in your itinerary has arrived.
Please note that we do not reimburse additional expenses, lost income, or compensation for inconvenience.
